As part of the international BeSMART project, a National roundtable for financing energy efficiency investments was held in Bulgaria at the end of September. The BeSMART project focuses on sustainable energy projects at local level as a key factor to overcome the energy and economic crisis. Speakers from Greece and the Czech Republic were also invited to the roundtable in Bulgaria to share their experiences in implementing similar projects. Thus, the SMAFIN and GreenDeal4Buildings projects were presented.
Mr. Jiří Karásek from SEVEn, The Energy Efficiency Center , presented the GreenDeal4Building project, which implements roundtables in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He presented both the approach to the organization and thematic focus of the roundtables and the concrete experience with financing energy saving projects, especially using the EPC method (Energy Performance Contracting – energy services with guarantee). The Czech Republic has a long-standing rich experience with EPC projects, which is very valuable for countries such as Bulgaria, where the EPC method and the energy services market is just beginning to develop.
